Many of you are asking: “How can we help the people of Haiti?”
Our church has been working in cooperation with many different people and organizations to answer this question effectively. We’re in talks with our own Mike & Carrie Gibson of www.grangou.org and www.forhisgloryoutreach.org, Rick Yeomans of www.rockoc.org and many local pastors. The tentative consensus is as follows:
1. Pray - Pray particularly for Mike and Cory, who are flying to Port-au-Prince today with a team of 2 other men. Their mission is to bring food and support to “The House of the Children of God” orphanage we support in Haiti.
2. Give money - Monetary donations can be made by credit card or Paypal at www.forhisgloryoutreach.org/inc/sdetail/281 and www.grangou.org, or via check payable to Coast Bible Church (memo: Haiti relief).
3. Donate resources - The Gibsons have partnered with Giving Children Hope, an organization that has made arrangements to get tons of humanitarian aid on the ground in Haiti. A list of needed resources can be downloaded at http://www.gchope.org/assets/files/id/1582/Haiti%20_donation_list.pdf. Please bring items to the church or call the church for pick-up.
4. GO - In time, our church will be identifying how to send medical, construction and able-bodied persons to Haiti to help provide more relief and support to the orphanage and the nation as a whole. Please give time for such plans to be developed, as the safety of the participants is our first concern. If you would like to be notified of when a Haiti relief trip is organized, please email colleen@coastbible.org and ask to be put on the notification list. We anticipate costs will be $1000-1500 per person.
These are four ways that you can reach out with the love of Christ to a nation that is hurting. Please prayerfully consider how you can help.
